While the “mainstream media” is full of commentary, some of which is useful and informative, regarding proposals to curb anthropogenic (i.e. derived from human activities) climate change, it is interesting to view the comments of the news media of nations most significantly affected by current climate change proposals. Taxation, and tax policy specifically, is one of the more popular methods to curb anthropogenic climate change.  A current proposal that is receiving considerable attention in India, is a carbon tax (or its equivalent “cap premium” in national cap and trade schemes) in the developing countries which, if it falls below the one established in the developed countries would be “equalized” or countervailed through border taxes or duties against goods from that developing country.  Not surprisingly, this proposal is not sitting well with the governments of developing countries.
